How to Get Rid of Acne

I’ve struggled with acne since my teenage years and throughout my adult years too. Tried so many treatments on the market that were harsh on my skin and that really didn’t help. About 15 years ago or so I stumbled upon a natural facial cleanser made of two simple natural ingredients that changed my life that you can make at home!
Oatmeal and Honey!
That’s it, nothing else!
This is a tried and true formula that I’ve used for many years that not only cleanses my skin, exfoliates my skin, but also acts an antibacterial cleanser too. Removing any bacteria, oils and dirt you’ve picked up throughout your day.
It also washes away my make up. If you prefer to remove your make up, that’s fine, but this natural cleanser will remove your make up! (it will not remove your mascara, you’ll need to remove it before you cleanse your face)
So why do these natural ingredients work on acne prone skin?
Mayo Clinic article says, “honey is as a mix of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, iron, zinc and antioxidants. In addition to its use as a natural sweetener, honey is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agent.”
Medical News Today says, “Ground oatmeal can work as an exfoliant, sloughing away dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. People may also use oatmeal for cleansing, moisturizing, and reducing inflammation. Doctors typically recommend that people use colloidal oatmeal for their skin. This type of oatmeal is a finely ground powder.”
Acne occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Depending on its severity, acne can cause emotional distress and scar the skin. The earlier you start treatment, the lower your risk of such problems.
These are the products I use, that can be found at your local grocery store such as Sprouts, Kroger, HEB or Whole Foods.

Here’s what you’ll need to mix your own oatmeal/honey facial cleanser.
Start with a clean glass jar to store your cleanser

¼ cup oat flour
¼ cup honey
Mix both ingredients in a bowl until well blended.

Store the mixture in the glass jar.
It’s ready to use!
The jar does not need to be refrigerated. I keep mine in the bathroom cabinet.
Use twice daily – morning and evening for best results. Upon application, the mixture will be sticky. To make it easy to handle place about a tablespoon on your hand and sprinkle some cold water on it and work the mixture on your hands so that it's easier to apply. In gentle circular motions work the mixture all over your face, forehead, nose, chin, especially focusing on any acne spots. After a couple minutes, wash off the cleanser with cold water. For better results do not use hot water.
This formula does tend to dry your skin, so make sure you moisturize afterwards.
On my next blog I will share a recipe for a homemade natural moisturizer.
Until then, please share your experience with this natural facial cleanser mixture.
